calling all bloggers!
i am writing an article on the noble pursuit of blogging. instead of doing the normal thing and interviewing people for info, i thought it would be cool if people commented on my blog. so, if you want my eternal gratitude and a mention in a june-exam article, answer the following questions as a comment to this posting:
why do you blog? what keeps you interested in blogging?
did blogging became a part of your lifestyle? in what way? why?
how do blogging influence the way you perceive society?
antwoorde in afrikaans baie welkom (die artikel gaan in die soetste moedertaal wees, so jy sal my 'n bietjie vertaalwerk spaar).
thanks a lot!
baie dankie!
enkosi kakhulu!

sal antwoord so gou daar 'n tydjie is.
shit, now I can't remember the questions...
Think it was why, what keeps you going, and something else...oh, how does it affect you.
I started cos arcadia told me to. Seriously though, I enjoy the element of vulnerability, the fact that you know only a handful of people realistically will read your most intimate words, but yet the possibility that anybody on earth could stumble into your mind, or as much as you display, is a rush. So there are definite parallels with addiction. You keep going cos you know where to find the fix. The only real way it's affected my life is that I've written much less on paper than I used to. Hope this helps...
K, got the questions horribly wrong. The last one was perception of society, not personal change. Ummmmmmmmm. I don't know, really. I've come across some pretty weird blogs and read strange stuff, but it wasn't ever revelation. I've met and heard and seen people in real life just as strange as any blog. My personal writing style hasn't changed much except that every now and then I submit to the call of making something a bit more humorous than if I were just writing in a journal...
I liked your slideshow...I know it's been done, but the signature reflection of person taking photo came out pretty good.
ek het nog nie regtig vreeslike nuwe revelations gehad oor die samelewing vandat ek begin blog het nie, but there were some notions that were affirmed.
kewl idea..
1) i blog becoz it feels like i have many friends, ppl who care..
..i continue blogn, coz ... well, there are many reasons.. i feel less alone and suicidal, other ppl's lives are interesting and takes my mind off my own, i learn a lot from the experiences of others, the pics they post are beautiful and i get to experience places ive never been... the list goes on and on. :D its also a place to be creative and not judged on the person you are.. if you dont like the comments, you can always switch em off, so, you're always in control..
2)id say blogn is a pretty large chunk of my lifestyle now. its the only happy part for me of coming to work. [i dont like my job much. at all.]
3) it hasnt changed my view on society overmuch.. its more introspective than that - i read about students going overseas, persuing their dreams.. enjoying it.. makes me re-evaluate my life and where its headed..
4) ek is mal oor bloggn.. ek dink dat dit 'n great plek is om mense te leer ken. en te "vent".
hoop jy kry 'n onderskeiding!
thanks neko!
why do you blog? what keeps you interested in blogging?
I like blogging because I like writing, and it's a way for me to attempt to express myself in an informal and undemanding environment. Also, blogging is really my only creative outlet: I'm studying in a pretty scientific field (medicine), and I find myself getting stuck in this rut where I eat, sleep and breathe medicine. I like to think that blogging keeps me on my toes, keeps me looking for interesting things to think about, and prevents me from becoming a person who is only a doctor, and not really much else.
did blogging became a part of your lifestyle? in what way? why?
Blogging has become part of my lifestyle - I try to update my own blog regularly, and reads tons of others. To be honest, it really gets exhausting sometimes. I feel obliged to comment on most of the posts I read, and so many of them are absolute crap. Sometimes it's as if I've stumbled on this huge new group of friends, and I need to devote time to each of them individually, or they'll all lose interest and go away.
how do blogging influence the way you perceive society?
Because I'm always trying to find stuff to post about, I tend to be constantly looking around for things that can be blog-worthy. I look at my friends, the people I meet, the situations that I find myself in, and wonder: how can I write about this? How can I make this interesting or beautiful for someone else?
I would attack blogging from a Marshall McCluhan "democratization of the media"-angle, like people blog because it is such a thrill for "everyone to be a commentator or critic."
In other words, the medium is the message and this medium is instantaneous and unfiltered.
Actually, though, I blog because I have a boring and easy job...I don't know how you get a 30-page thesis out of that, however....
why do you blog? what keeps you interested in blogging?
I started blogging because a lot of my online friends were doing it. I also really enjoy writing, which is what kept me going. I find it useful as a way for people to keep up with what's going on in my life, and I guess I enjoy the attention it gets me and the friends I've made through it.
did blogging became a part of your lifestyle? in what way? why?
Yes... I check the blogs every day. It's become part of my life to think about what I'm going to blog about next... but I wouldn't say it's taken any significant control of my life. It's also been an outlet in difficult times... when I felt I could ask the bloggers anything.
how does blogging influence the way you perceive society?
Hmmm. One doesn't ask a commerce student questions like this! Um. Well, I don't think its changed my perception much at all. The only noticable change I've gone through is to become less judgemental and more understanding. But that's not necessairly through blogging.
I don't actively look out for things to blog about. It's more a case of 'that's interesting... hmm. Should blog about it.'
Sorry they're not in Afrikaans! All the best with the article.
why do you blog? what keeps you interested in blogging?
I started blogging because a friend set up a blog up for me. I also blog because I moved away from some really close friends and it's a good way to keep in touch. I also like the idea of writing about some things that I find interesting as a personal record. An online journal of sorts.
did blogging became a part of your lifestyle? in what way? why?
It has become a part of what I do. I try and dedicate 1 morning a week to blogging. It is not a lot of time but it's enough to update my page and check out some other blogs. I don't have the time to blogged down - like Karen! It's a nice escape from archaeology but only in little doses.
how do blogging influence the way you perceive society?
I have always thought that society as a whole was fairly odd. I now see that most people are just a bit lonely. Not a bad lonely - just a 'lets see who else is out there' type of lonely. People just want to chat and maybe while they are doing that, put a mark of themselves in this world.
Ok, came from arcadia's site and it's going to be in English I'm afraid.
Why do I blog? Curiously someone else asked me that recently. I had done an article for a friend's blog and a couple of folk asked me why I didn't have a blog myself. I've nly been doing it for a month so we'll have to see how it goes.
Is it part of my lifestyle? Not yet, but it does take a bloody long time to get a post together so it seems that way. I read more blogs now than I ever did, for fun and for work. I find a blog post has to be shorter and more to the point, so I like the style for that. One thing is that I've drifted from message boards as a result of this.
Does it influence the way I see people? Not really as it seems to fit the image I have of bloggers I know (so no shocks there), and I don't have a point of reference for those I don't know. Is that a bad answer?
